Janet Duca Norton: Celebrating righteous giving with Rambam's Ladder

'Illumination" was the theme of the sold-out Rambam's Ladder Award Gala and Auction on Feb. 11 at the Oshman Family Jewish Community Center on the Taube Koret Campus for Jewish Life in Palo Alto.

Illumination referred to honoree Laura Lauder's community leadership and philanthropy that is dedicated to promoting education and future leaders.

She served on the board of the National Public Radio Foundation, co-founded the Socrates Program of the Aspen Institute with her husband and their Lauder Philanthropic Fund, is a fellow on the Council of Foreign Relations, vice chair of the Jewish Community Fund of San Francisco ($1.625B) and founded the DeLeT program for day school teachers.

"I gave my first philanthropic gift to the Jewish community when I was 23 years old. ... It made me feel like I can really make a difference. I have never turned back. It has been upward from there," Lauder said. The first woman to receive the Rambam's Ladder Award, she continued, "The most important part of my philanthropy is when I help young individuals become great leaders."
